About Us

Hi all!

Welcome to the Keep Calm and Get Crafting blog.

We are a non-profit community craft group based in Bushbury, Wolverhampton and meet alternate Mondays to share our crafts, learn from each other and have a cuppa, a slice of cake and a natter.  We also lend our hooks, needles and sewing machines to charity projects and host craft fairs to showcase local talent.

Let me introduce the committee:

The group was the brainchild of Debbie who was unhappy with the lack of craft groups in the Bushbury area.  The only groups that she could find met in the day when she was at work.  Unsure as to whether there would be enough interest she consulted with her daughter Donna and long-term friend Judy who both agreed that there was nothing available to working women locally.  Between themselves they set up a Facebook group in February 2014 to see if their views were shared and if they should set up a community group that would meet regularly in the evenings.

The Facebook group went from strength to strength, especially after Wolverhampton Today shared the group link.  The consensus of the online community was that evening craft groups were lacking and the ones that did run were focused on one craft.  Another factor was the cost of courses especially at a time when everyone’s budgets were squeezed.

The first group meeting was arranged for 7 April 2014 at St Mary’s Church Hall, Bushbury Lane, Wolverhampton which attracted 10 other local crafters.  The evening was a success!  Sally-ann continued to be a faithful member of the group and pitched in help with promoting the group at local events so it was decided that she would become the fourth committee member.
